We have lots of New Kids bouncing around the kid pen!
My love of the Nigerian Dwarf began with a dream of one day having my own herd of goats. I've lived and worked around the world and everywhere I went I saw goats......all colors, shapes and breeds.... producing wonderful milk for their families. I knew that one day I too would have a few goats at home. That became "quite a few" as I discovered the joy of owning, or rather being owned by, Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats.
I was fortunate enough to find a beautiful farmstead in Vermont, one of the most beautiful spots in New England. And we now have a small farm where we raise these beautiful goats, sell milk, cheese, fresh eggs, honey and more.
Please take a moment to view our farm and our beautiful Nigerians....you're sure to fall in love just as I have.
We hope you enjoy your visit and come back often to see what's going on "down on the farm"!
Spring is trying hard to come to the North Country...but was thwarted once again as we went from record setting temps in the 80's back down to freezing..That Mother Nature is a real prankster!
Actually we can't really complain...our weather is actually pretty appropriate for March and Spring really is just around the corner....or right in our barn if you include baby goats as a sign of Spring!! We've had a busy kidding season and are about 60% done with lots of beautiful kids available - wethers, does and bucks. So far, we've had more bucks than does but that has shifted slightly in the last 10 days. No matter doe or buck, they are all pretty darn cute!!
During our "Spring Break", I was happy to be out in the garden cleaning up the winter debris and checking out the iris and daffodils poking their noses up through the dirt. Our lilacs, apple trees and other spring flowering shrubs are readying themselves as well for a flowery show. I also had a chance to visit the bees and see what's buzzing in the hive....they look great and there are plenty of them to start out the season. We've ordered new nucs for mid-May pick up so I'm excited to add 2 new hives to the bee yard!! All and all, it was a super break in the weather and although we're in a slightly chilly front, we know that Spring will be here in no time at all....and we're ready!
Kim the cheesemaker is also trying to be patient. She is waiting for those kids to be weaned so that she can start making lots of cheese. In the meantime, she is hard at work on the cow's milk cheeses she is developing. We'll be selling the first of those new cheese in just a few weeks and we're excited to share them with our customers.
In the meantime, I'm going to stoke the fire in the woodstove and maybe take a quick nap while the wind howls around the windows......bet I'll dream about the summer meadows.
