Willow Moon Farm is located literally on the border of East Montpelier and Plainfield, Vermont, USA. We sleep in East Montpelier and the goats sleep in Plainfield and we're only a few yards apart.
No matter what town we're in officially, we are definitely in a state of bliss...the state of Vermont. While known for its fall foliage, maple products, and the beautiful Green Mountains, we love it most for the lifestyle, the people and the appreciation for local products.
A BIT OF WINOOSKI RIVER HISTORY
The farm is a small, 27 acre farmstead on the banks of the Winooski River. Winooski, or "at the place of the wild onion" as it was named by the Abenaki, is generally agreed by geologists to be one of the older waterways of the continent.
The Abenaki used the Winooski as one of their major routes to the east, first to communicate with other villages in the Connecticut River Valley and later to trade and eventually raid the English settlers in Northern Massachusetts. In fact, the Winooski was so commonly used by the Abenaki and their allies the French, for the purpose of raiding the English, that some of the early settlers called it the "French River".
This route was used by a part of the raiding party that returned from Deerfield, MA with captives in 1704. Stephen Williams's account of his trip north as a captive of the raiding band is the earliest record we have of a white man traveling through East Montpelier. According to the account, the group camped on land that is now in Plainfield.
We can certainly understand why they would choose to camp on the beautiful land that is now Willow Moon Farm.

Willow Moon Farm is the home of our beautiful, registered Sugar Moon Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goat herd and Willow Moon Farm farmstead cheese and other dairy products.
In addition to the Nigerians, we sell CHEESE, eggs from our free range hens, goat milk soaps, honey and other farm products as they are seasonally available.
Other residents that call Willow Moon home include Alex the wonder dog....a handsome young Great Pyrenees who is a LGD (livestock guardian dog), dachshunds & rescues Maggie, Emmet, Pixi, Mini, Doberman rescue Ziva and barn cats Katwan and Kattoo. Katwan and Kattoo were joined this year by a stray that wandered in from who knows where, that has become the most popular cat in town. Everyone loves Pita, and he is obviously here to stay.
My daughter, Kim lives here with Rob and their 5 dogs and 3 cats.
Plus.......turkeys, geese, chickens, ducks, peafowl and honey bees. You never know for sure just what you'll find here on the farm.
Take a tour of our farm and the surrounding area. Vermont and Willow Moon Farm truly are a state of bliss. NEXT
