Creamy Kunekune Sausage Soup

Sharing another cozy, farm-style soup made with our own Kunekune pork sausage and homemade pork bone broth.

When the weather starts to turn crisp, there’s nothing better than a hearty soup simmering on the stove — especially one made with ingredients raised right here on the farm. This creamy Kunekune sausage soup is a family favorite around here. It’s full of nourishing goodness from our pastured pork bone broth, fresh vegetables, and our rosemary garlic sausage. The result is a creamy, comforting bowl that feels like home.

Ingredients

1 pound Kunekune rosemary garlic sausage

4–5 medium potatoes, diced

1 onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 carrots, peeled and sliced

1 stick of celery, chopped

3/4 of a mason jar (or about 3 cups) of homemade pork bone broth

1/2 cup milk (whole or raw milk works best)

1 package shredded cheddar cheese (about 2 cups)

Salt and pepper to taste

Butter or lard for sautéing

Directions

1. Cook the sausage

In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the Kunekune rosemary garlic sausage over medium heat for 2-3 minutes.

2. Sauté the vegetables

Toss in the onion, garlic, carrots, and celery. Sauté until they begin to soften and the onion turns translucent.

3. Add potatoes and broth

Stir in the diced potatoes and pour in your homemade pork bone broth. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the potatoes are tender — about 15–20 minutes.

4. Stir in sausage, milk, and cheese

Add the milk and shredded cheddar cheese, stirring until the cheese melts and the soup becomes creamy.

5. Season and serve

Taste and adjust with salt and pepper!

This soup is rich, nourishing, and full of real ingredients — the kind of meal that connects us back to the land and animals that provide for us.

Farm tip: our homemade pork bone broth gives this soup its depth and body, but you can also use chicken broth in a pinch.
