Ancestral Fats In Your Kitchen And For Your Skin Workshop

Ancestral Fats In Your Kitchen And For Your Skin Workshop

Join us on February 28 from 10 AM to approximately 12–12:30 PM for a hands-on, in-person workshop at Willow Moon Farm focused on working with traditional animal fats the way they were meant to be used.

In this immersive class, you’ll learn how to render animal fats from start to finish, including both tallow and lard. We’ll walk through the full rendering process, talk about sourcing quality fats, and discuss what to look for so you can feel confident doing this at home. You’ll see the differences between tallow and lard, how each behaves, and why they’ve been such essential staples in traditional kitchens and homes for generations.

Beyond the how, we’ll dive into the why. We’ll talk about the benefits of tallow and lard for overall health, why these fats have been misunderstood for so long, and why they are making such a strong comeback in both ancestral nutrition and natural skincare. You’ll learn how these fats support the body, why they’re so nourishing, and what makes them uniquely compatible with our skin.

We’ll then move into skincare, where I’ll demonstrate how to make a simple, effective tallow body butter. You’ll learn how to use both tallow and lard for the skin in other creations, what makes them so healing and moisturizing, and how to incorporate them into your own daily care routines with confidence.

To help you get started right away, beef suet and lard will be available for purchase at the workshop so you can take home quality fats and begin rendering and creating on your own.

This workshop is designed to be practical, educational, and empowering. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of ancestral fats, the knowledge to work with them safely and effectively, and the confidence to bring these traditional practices into your own kitchen and skincare rituals.

Tickets are extremely limited and this is the only workshop for this subject we plan to have for 2026.

The workshop takes place indoors at our farm in Gore, VA.
